Revit is Autodesk's BIM software for designing buildings and infrastructure, and for architects, engineers and design teams it is an industry standard. If you are a builder or one of the tradies who needs to measure a PDF plan to price a job, it is the wrong tool and an expensive one: a Revit annual subscription is listed at A$4,365 + tax a year per seat, and it has no dedicated PDF takeoff. MetreMate measures PDF plans in your browser, starts free, and gets you to a first measurement in minutes.

What Revit is genuinely good at

Revit is a full BIM platform: parametric 3D models, construction documentation, worksharing so whole teams can work on one model, and a large ecosystem of add-ins and integrations. Architects, structural engineers and building services designers rely on it to design, coordinate and deliver projects, and if that is your job it is a strong choice. It just is not made for measuring someone else's PDF plans.

Why MetreMate is the better tool for measuring plans

Measuring a plan should not need a BIM platform. Revit 2027 is a desktop install for 64-bit Windows 11, with 16 GB of RAM and 30 GB of disk space at the entry level, and on a Mac Autodesk points you to running Windows in Parallels Desktop. A PDF goes into a 2D view to trace or use as a reference while you build a model, and Autodesk's own help says Measure tool results are only shown until you exit the tool or start another measurement. MetreMate opens the PDF in any browser on Windows or Mac, you set the scale once, and your lengths, areas, perimeters and counts stay on the plan as you work. It costs a fraction of a Revit seat, and you can start free.

Choose Revit if

Choose Revit if you design buildings or building systems and need BIM modelling, coordination and construction documentation, and a yearly per-seat subscription is part of running your practice.

Choose MetreMate if

Choose MetreMate if you need to measure PDF plans to price work. You get takeoff in the browser on the Windows or Mac computer you already have, without paying for a design platform you will not use, and you can start free.
