How to measure an area on a plan

1 min read Updated

Use the Area tool to measure a room, slab or zone. Click each corner of the shape in turn, then click the first corner again to close it. MetreMate shows the area in the middle of the shape and works out its perimeter too.

Step by step

  1. 1Make sure the sheet is scaled.
  2. 2Choose Area in the tool list. It is marked Active while you use it.
  3. 3Click each corner of the room or zone in turn, including the corners of L-shaped and irregular shapes. The area so far shows as you go.
  4. 4Move back to the first corner. When it shows Click to close, click it to close the shape.
  5. 5Read the area on the plan. It is saved to your active layer.
Back at the first corner, MetreMate shows Click to close.

Tips

  • Corners and edges snap as you move, so each side lines up with the wall on the plan.
  • Drag any corner afterwards to adjust the shape. The area and perimeter update as you go.
  • Give each area a name in the layers panel, like Bed 1, so you can tell rooms apart.
  • Use Fill to shade the area in a colour of your choice.
