What Cubit is genuinely good at
Cubit Estimating ties takeoff directly to the estimate, so every measurement updates your pricing as you go. It imports PDF, CAD, BIM and image files, has rate sheets, price lists and template jobs, and the higher editions add bills of quantities, custom reports, IFC BIM takeoff and shared job access for estimating teams. Buildsoft has been building estimating and takeoff software for 40 years. If estimating is your full-time job, it is a serious tool.
Why MetreMate is the better tool for measuring plans
If what you need is the measurements, you do not need an estimating suite. Cubit Estimating is Windows software: Buildsoft supports Windows 11, rates macOS through Boot Camp or a virtual machine as limited support, and asks for a dedicated graphics card with OpenGL 2.0 support, recommending 16 GB of RAM or more even for light use. Its managed cloud-hosted option is priced on request. MetreMate opens the PDF in any modern browser on a Windows or Mac computer, you set the scale once, and you measure lengths, areas, perimeters, counts, angles and arcs straight away. It costs far less than a Cubit seat, and you can start free.
Choose Cubit if
Choose Cubit Estimating if you estimate full time, want takeoff and pricing in one system with rate sheets, price lists and bills of quantities, and a Windows PC and a yearly per-user subscription suit the way you work.
Choose MetreMate if
Choose MetreMate if you need to measure PDF plans to price work or order materials. You get takeoff in the browser on the Windows or Mac computer you already have, without paying for an estimating suite you will not fully use, and you can start free.
