What On-Screen Takeoff is genuinely great at

OST is built for estimators who bid a lot of commercial work. ConstructConnect describes it as a preferred choice for general contractors managing multiple bids, with support for trades including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, concrete and drywall. It has Multi-Condition Takeoff, Typical Areas and Groups, Auto Count and overlay comparison, it reads PDF and DWG plans, and it connects to Quick Bid and other estimating tools. If takeoff is your full-time job, OST is a proven choice.

Where MetreMate fits

MetreMate is for the contractor who does takeoffs a few times a week, not all day. It runs in the browser on a Mac or PC, so there is nothing to install. There is a free plan to start, and paid plans are listed on our pricing page. You upload a PDF, set the scale, and measure lengths, areas, perimeters, counts, angles and arcs. It does not have OST's conditions, bid tools or estimating integrations, and it is not trying to.
