What is an ARCH D sheet?
ARCH D is the US architectural sheet size of 24 x 36 in, the most common full-size sheet for construction plans. The ARCH series also includes ARCH C (18 x 24 in), ARCH E (36 x 48 in) and ARCH E1 (30 x 42 in), the last two for larger projects.
Formula
Print scale factor = printed sheet size / full sheet size
Worked example
Two ways a 24 x 36 in ARCH D set gets printed smaller.
- 1.True half size, 12 x 18 in (ARCH B): 12 / 24 = 0.5, exactly 50 percent, so 1/4" scale reads as 1/8"
- 2.Fit to tabloid, 11 x 17 in: 11 / 24 = 0.458 and 17 / 36 = 0.472, roughly 46 percent
A half-size set still scales at half the stated scale; an 11 x 17 print does not scale at all.
