Why flooring contractors choose MetreMate

Flooring contractors use MetreMate to take off carpet, LVP, hardwood and tile from PDF floor plans and blueprints. Trace each room for square feet, check widths against a 12 ft carpet roll, measure base and transitions in linear feet, and count stairs. MetreMate gives you the square footage, then you apply your waste, box coverage or square yards. It runs in any modern browser on a Windows or Mac computer, with nothing to install.

The slow way, or the smart way

What changes when flooring contractors measure in MetreMate instead of off a printout.

Without MetreMate

  • Rooms wider than 12 ft where the seam plan decides whether you make money
  • Mixing up square feet and square yards between the estimate and the order
  • Closets, hallways and transitions that never make it onto the measure sheet

With MetreMate

  • Area in sq ft with Layers per flooring type
  • Measure (length) for room widths, seams and transition strips
  • Perimeter for baseboard, quarter round and cove base in linear feet
  • Count for stair treads, risers and doorway transitions

Step by step

How flooring contractors use MetreMate

  1. 1

    Room-by-room square footage

Trace every room, closet and hallway with the Area tool and put each flooring type on its own layer. Carpet, LVP, hardwood and tile each get a clean square footage total, so nothing small slips off the measure sheet.

  2. 2

Carpet on a 12 ft roll

Measure each room's width against the roll. Anything wider than 12 ft needs a seam, or a 15 ft roll if the room fits it. Mark where the seams fall on the plan, then work out roll length and square yards for the order.

  3. 3

    Transitions, base and stairs

Use Perimeter for baseboard, quarter round and cove base in linear feet, and Measure for transition strips at doorways. Count stair treads and risers with the Count tool, then measure tread and riser and add your tuck.
