Why roofing contractors choose MetreMate

Roofing contractors use MetreMate to take off roofs from PDF plans and blueprints before there is a roof to stand on. Trace each plane for plan area in sq ft, measure ridges, hips, valleys, eaves and rakes in linear feet, and count vents and pipe boots. MetreMate gives you the plan area, then you apply your pitch multiplier and waste to get squares. It runs in any modern browser on a Windows or Mac computer, with nothing to install.

The slow way, or the smart way

What changes when roofing contractors measure in MetreMate instead of off a printout.

Without MetreMate

  • New construction bids where there is no roof to measure and no aerial report to buy
  • Forgetting the pitch factor and coming up squares short
  • Hips and valleys scaled by hand, so ridge cap and valley metal are always a guess

With MetreMate

  • Area for each roof plane, in sq ft, with Layers per pitch
  • Measure (length) for ridges, hips, valleys, eaves and rakes in linear feet
  • Angle for reading roof slope off an elevation
  • Count for vents, pipe boots and skylights

Everything you can measure off the plan

Set the scale once, then pull the quantities roofing contractors actually quote on.

Step by step

How roofing contractors use MetreMate

  1. 1

    Roof area to squares

Trace each roof plane on the roof plan with the Area tool and keep each pitch on its own layer. MetreMate gives you the plan area in sq ft, then you apply your pitch multiplier, divide by 100 for squares and add your waste.

  2. 2

    Ridges, hips, valleys and edges

Run the Measure tool along ridges, hips, valleys, eaves and rakes. Eaves plus rakes give you drip edge and starter. Ridges and eaves are level, so plan view is true length, but plan-view lengths of sloped members like hips, valleys and rakes need your slope adjustment.

  3. 3

    Flashing and penetrations

Measure step and wall flashing where roof meets wall, then count pipe boots, vents and skylights with the Count tool. Gutters and downspouts go on their own layer when they are in your scope, so the bid shows every line.
